Academic Information

The 8-4-4 system adopts eight years of primary education, four years of secondary education and four years of university education with national
examinations in the primary level popularly known as KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) after completion of the secondary level. These examinations which are set in the English language and administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) require all the educational institutions in Kenya to use English as the medium of instruction. The 8-4-4 curriculum in secondary level is very intense considering that a student is required to have a minimum of 7 subjects each comprising of a wide coverage of topics. After successfully completing the 4 year program, a student qualifies to sit for KCSE in which he/she needs to score a minimum average of C+ in order to be eligible to graduate and join a 4 year degree program.

Subjects

Light Academy offers the following subjects as dictated by the Ministry of Education; A student is required to take all the 11 subjects till the end of
first year after which he is allowed to drop a maximum of 4 subjects. This is a collaborative process guided by the parent/guardian, teachers and career counselors.

Our university acceptance rate for the last 2 years has been 98%. During this period our students have been admitted in the most prestigious higher learning institutions locally and abroad such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dartmouth, Oregon state university, University of Central Lancashire, Deakin University, North American University, Karlsruher Institute of Technology among many others.
